Five going on Forty Five
-
So just when I am recovering from being put to shame by the kids of the Harbor Day School and their generous donation to Laundry Love this story comes a long to smack me back down and keep me humble. This time from Christine and Mathew (yep I changed the names again.)
You see Christine and Mathew have been volunteering at our super-duper ultra top-secret site for the last three or four months. We actually do have another smaller site but we don’t broadcast it as openly because we only need about ten volunteers to run it each month. Any Spanish speakers would be a huge help though, but I digress.
Mathew decided he wanted to help raise money for Laundry Love and eventually collected $340 dollars to donate to the cause. The kicker? He is only five years old! Actually he was only four years old when he first got the idea. How did he do it? You guessed it. He used his birthday to raise money for Laundry Love.
He asked that instead of getting presents for his birthday that people donate money to Laundry Love instead. How about that? Not only that but his mom, Christine, agreed to match whatever he was able to collect. He collected $170 and matched by his mom, turned that into $340! All of this from a five year old? Go figure.
Mathew, thanks so much for giving to Laundry Love and serving as an example and an inspiration to us all and for showing us a better glimpse of what life is about. The irony of course is that you aren’t even old enough to read this yet. So have your mom read it for you and let you know we love you! Oh, and happy late birthday!
Laundry Love
