October 15th Recap

by admin on October 18, 2009

From LLP oct 09

A huge thanks to everyone who came out on Thursday.  It was an amazing night filled with food provided by the Catholic Workers, books provided by Think Together and read by several of you, music mostly paid for out of the laundromat owner’s pocket (which led to an epic dance off), and of course, TONS of laundry taken care of by all of your hard work and generosity.

Stories are starting to trickle in and we will start to post more of those as they do.  In the mean time here is what happened on Thursday.

The Numbers

  • almost 150 loads of laundry
  • 49 individuals and families signed in adding up to just over 122 people
  • $370
  • 59 volunteers

Over the next couple weeks we are going to be strategizing for the future as the laundromat is not equipped to handle 200 people at once.  This may take shape in several different ways and we will keep you all posted.

We also have a few requests to address the growing logistical support needed as Laundry Love Santa Ana continues to grow.

Needs

  • A small safe to store quarter reserves in
  • commitments from volunteer groups, small groups, civic organizations, etc. to run point once a year, once a quarter or once a month.  We will continue to provide support volunteers, training, fundraising, media support etc. just looking to make sure we have trained folks in place to handle sign ups, money, soap and dryer sheets if we are going to expand to multiple sites or times
  • a few clipboards
  • a few boxes of pens
  • any of your friends who know Spanish

If any of you are in a position to meet any of these needs, please do let us know.  You can email scottoverpeck at gmail dot com to set up any details.
