I can hardly believe it was almost a year ago that we launched this crazy little thing called Laundry Love. The time has gone by so fast that it doesn’t seem possible. Yet here it is, this September we will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary.
It’s funny because when we launched this thing I don’t think any of us had any idea of how much it would grow or how fun it would become. People from all over Orange County have volunteered to help and donations have been given by organizations, schools and individuals everywhere. It’s really pretty cool to see people from all walks of life coming together to help those in need.
Of course the biggest and best surprise of all are the friendships that have been made a long the way. Not just with other volunteers but more importantly with the people we help out. Ever month now we look forward to seeing our regulars at the Laundromat and they know us be name. It is even to the point that the kids ask about us if one of us misses a month, which is rare since we love it so much.
For me personally I no longer see people as “homeless” or “poor.” I now see them as my friends and I am not okay with the fact they have to sleep on the streets or decide between having a meal or getting their laundry done, a confession that we heard from one woman who came out last month. So you see all of this came about in just one year. In fact less then that, all of this came about in just 12 nights out of the year. It’s pretty amazing if you ask me and I am excited to see what another year may bring.
I am also truly surprised about how fun it has all turned out to be. How we crank the juke box and impromptu dance parties break out. How the kids run around and play and how everyone is smiling and having fun, even if just for one night, which brings us to our next point.
Our one year anniversary is on September 16th and everyone is invited! We love to throw a good, clean party and what better reason to celebrate then our volunteers hard work over the last year! So come on out! We will kick things off a little earlier this time, 6:30 P.M. to be precise, so that we will have time for everything that night. We will also have some cool things in store that you won’t want to miss! So mark your calendars and we look forward to seeing you on the 16th. Oh and here’s to one more year of Laundry Love!

A regular opportunity to help people who are struggling financially by assisting them with doing their laundry. Relationships are built, and and we hope to become a small community of common concern in which participants find that they receive assistance and benefit with other areas of their lives as well.
